Nowadays, schools, colleges, educators, and even the government is focusing on the development of skills in students. The primary reason for this is to unlock several more doors of opportunities for them.
The continuous process of training to acquire new skills & upskilling them over time is known as skill development. It helps in improving one’s overall productivity and brings out an individual’s true potential.
Without skill development, an individual cannot explore good employment opportunities. Hence, it directly affects our quality of life.
Broadly, skill development aims at enhancing both hard and soft skills. Because an individual needs a combination of both these types of skills in order to achieve success.
Hard skills are mostly knowledge-based and are quantifiable in nature. Foreign language skills, typing, computer skills, etc. fall in the category of hard skills.
On the other hand, soft skills are related to our personality. Common examples of soft skills include time management, adaptability, communication and leadership skills, etc.
Also, acquiring a diverse set of relevant skills often leads to the development of entrepreneurial skills in children.
We are living in a world that is not just competitive but also diverse. Therefore, the government of India is continuously presenting resolutions to implement skill development and inculcate entrepreneurship abilities in the coming generation.
The government has launched various Schemes & Initiatives through NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation), which provides training programs and courses aimed to produce a skilled workforce of youngsters.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the most anticipated scheme by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in India.
With training centers and NSDC’s skilling partners all across India, it is evident that the government is raising the Skill India movement in the country.
Children’s bright future not only depends on their academic performance but also on the extra-skills & qualifications. Introducing new skills provides a vibrant exposure to the learners, which indirectly helps them to gain self-esteem and build confidence.
A few simple life skills can help the students in handling their academic or personal situations very effectively. Some activities and skills are not a part of the student’s mainstream curriculum. Nevertheless, these skills and activities carry a great weightage in the overall academic growth and development of children.
In addition to this, some skills help the students to improve and polish their communication skills too. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and working memory are the three primary skills to which students should pay comparatively more attention.
Skill training supports the students to learn relevant information, process it based on the need, and deal with it accordingly.
Communication skills, creative skills, technical skills, analytical skills, leadership skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, and social skills categorize into the skill sets that carry the utmost importance.
